No, it's an economic reality. The Church does not have unlimited funds. Keep in mind that a diocese is funded by donations from people in the pews. Why should I be punished because of a few sick priests? Further, will a few million dollars make someone "un-raped"? I'm all on favor of the Church picking up the tab for counseling these people, but outrageous damage claims are simply a means of getting something for nothing.

No, it is an example of business...and the catholic church is a business. As far as telling me I am going to hell for being catholic, I will let that up to god. As far as bankrupting the catholic church, even deist Ben Franklin on his death bed (people seem to find God when they are faced with death...how convenient) said 'if this is what society is like WITH religion, imagine what it is like without'. I hate that the sins of the few have translated into some kind of cash windfall for many people (not just the vistims, some of them estranged family members) and as a result, I have part of my donations go to pay that off. So if you want to be able to sue the church, you need to be willing to accept them as a business. not all catholics are child molesting priests.

It's a prime combination of bad financial management, years of sweeping illicit behavior under the rug and having a rampant tort law system.

Some have noted how ironic it is for those on the left to criticize the Catholic Church for not weeding out pedophile/homosexual priests on the one hand, and to criticize the Boy Scouts for banning gays on the other.
Most, if not all, of the people abused were post-pubescent males.

It's an example of what the Boy Scouts of America would end up doing if they permitted gay scoutmasters like the libs and other Christian-bashers would like them to.

Yes. It just exposing the ugly truth about how filthy rich churches are in America. These organizations take in billions in tax free money. Makes one wonder where it all goes.
