Backups. Different flavours of UNIX have different backup formats, but you can just tar the files and save them to CD.

You have to have used something to back up the data before it got destroyed.

You don;t say what variety of unix... but most of them do *not* just remove the ponter to the file (the inode... akin to the entry in the file allocation table in Windows) but actually shred the data on the disk.

So, delete the file, it's likely to be gone. If the disk fails, you may be able to use a commercial data recovery service to get some of the data back but you will pay.

So, like Windows, the key to being able to recover from data loss is to have made a backup of the data somewhere else. Tape is common on 'servers' but you can use WORM optical devices or other disk devices. How you get the data back depends on what software you used and where you backed it up to.

don't search here no one tells you right thing here i m also searching for the same question till one month but no useful replies take my advice and go to ur vendor or consult ur friends
