This is a Native American legend. Specifically, the Powhatan indians which are a branch of the Algonquin speaking Indians that populated the northeastern part of the United States. They believed that the earth itself was a turtle and we are all residents upon its back. At the time they wouldn't have known that outer space was actually a vacuum.

Its interesting that people always like to pull out the flat earth argument against creationists. Its so clear people don't understand history. Jews and Christians and believers of the bible have for MOST of history believed in a round world. It was only a VERY small precentage that did not. There are two choices. God created. It just happened. Teach both as possibilities to be fair.

Yes, that about the turttle actually came from some comments by the famous BERTRAND RUSSELL when myth says an old lady questioned him by assuming there was A GIANT TURTLE holding the universe on it´s back... And asked for a confirmation or scientific refusal for her theory... HE COULD NOT PROVIDE HER WITH EITHER ONE. P.S. By the story I assume the name of the turttle was Bertrand.

Of course not. When was the last time anyone saw the end of the Earth? With airplanes flying all over the world all the time someone would have seen the end recently, but they haven't because there isn't an end.

The idea of a flat earth has been dead since the time of the Greeks. Nowadays even idiots know that the earth is round.

Yes. The turtle ( he goes by Bill) is large and irritable. Please do not feed him as hunger is his motivation to swim. If he doesn't not swim, it will anger the gods and we will sure all be hit by lightning or destroyed by volcano, even the plains states.
