I have two fish, Silver and Golden and they are 5 years old. Silver is acting weirdly. She is standing on her head in like a bottom feeding pose. She is fine in herself though (I am only presuming Silver's female because of her characteristics, I do not know for certain). Her lower scales are also standing up very slightly and she is a bit bloated. She is fine at food time though! The second the food goes in she is up at the top gobbling and then she cruises the tank like normal, bottom feeding and moving out of the whirlwinds way (Golden is blind and gets a little over excited at foodtimes!) She does'nt seem to have any intention of dying and she seems way to well so its not dropsy because from what Ive read that is a slow death where the scales stand up and some fall off blood seeps from their body. It could be intestial worms but surely Golden would be ill too. The water has been changed twice since she started this. Could it be her 1st breeding season. Please help!!!!!!!

That is right! You can buy frozen peas though and then just thaw, shell, and cut them into smaller bite size pieces and feed this to them. Protruding scales IS the start of Dropsy. Along with bloating. You can also get the fish an antibiotic food. Dropsy is not a disease it is a sign of a bacterial infection.
Just to let you know though, usually by the time you see the scales protruding it is too late.
It could also be swim bladder, and the treatment is the same.

Well, I'm not sure what kind of fish you have, but over weight or constipated or intestinal worms or full of eggs will not cause scales to stand out. Only dropsy causes that particular appearance. Dropsy can be a very slow moving disease and can take a month or more to finally kill a fish. What you are seeing is the very earliest signs of the disease. I would suggest you treat for dropsy with medicated food for infections as well as with Furanace or Marycn 2 added to the tank.

I would try a simple remedy to see if it helps Silver out. Cook some peas. (Just boil them without any salt). Allow them to come to room temperature, remove the thin outer shell and feed these to your fish in place of their normal food. If it's a swimmbladder problem, this should clear her out. Keep doing this until her poop is solid without any spacing in it and green.
Keep in mind that dropsy isn't a disease in itself, it's just the name given for the symptom of pineconed scales.
As a preliminary step, you might consider putting malachite green and aquarium salt in to treat for bacterial infections that could cause this condition.

sorry to say this, but they are going to die.

You probably had bad water in there, you need to balnce out the levels in fish tanks for them to be healthy. Next time you get fish look into this.
