What were some of the accomplishments and failures of Napeleon in the Age of Revolution?

Napoleon failed in some ways, such as wanting to be an emperor rather that the leader of a democratic people.

But his worst failure was his invasion of Russia. One hundred thousand people marched into Russia. Ten thousand marched out. He was responsible for ninety thousand lives lost.

Oh, no doubt he talked a lot of garbage like looking for nonexistent weapons of mass destruction or whatever it was that they feared in 1812. Maybe he wanted to depose the evil Czar, and bring democracy to the people of Russia. But whatever he told himself was probably self-deception.

To lie to others is bad but when a person in power lies to himself and drags others to their death and just says "I'm the decider" we have a problem. Napoleon might have been remembered with more respect if he had not launched into a career of being dictatorial and not listening to others or placing a high enough value on their lives and their freedom to choose. The world doesn't need emperors.

Accomplishments: The Napoleonic code, the birth of modern archaeology, and the extension of the rights of citizenship to previously ignored or persecuted classes like Jews, to name three.

Failures: Losing the Napoleonic wars to the reactionary fatheads who ruled the rest of Europe. Also, he was terribly racist against black people, as indicated by his behavior toward the Haitians.

He brought in a monarchy and made himself a monarch of France (people spent a lot of time trying to get rid of the Old Regime by separating their heads from their bodies, so to speak).
