I'm serious they are 12 percent of population but make up more than 50 percent of the prison population.

Are you serious? Why would you ask such a question? Simply because they may make up "more than 50 percent" does not mean that they actually committed the crime that they were put in prison for. Since you want to ask such an ignorant question I have a very good and sensible question. - My question probably answers your question.

Why is it that when some people commit a crime (in an effort to not get caught) they say it was a black person that committed the crime?

First off, being African-American does not mean that you are a automatically criminal. I don't even know if it is true that blacks commit more crime than whites. I would imagine that the numbers are closer than people think.
I would suspect that It's probably due to socioeconomic reasons. I would suggest that you see how many people(of every race) are living below the poverty line and how many of those people are receiving a substandard education, family size, if they were raised by a single mother, etc... Compare that with what percentage of those people committing crimes. I guarantee that the numbers will be equal for Whites, Blacks, Asians,etc... Whatever race is living below the poverty line *may* commit the more crimes, no matter what race. Alot of the current situation stems from the days of slavery, segregation and the separate but equal(bull S***).

It doesn't matter what race you are, everyone is just as capable as committing crimes as everyone else. Then there is always the white male in his 30's who is chopping someone up next door....

You are right in your observation. I am amazed that many people are so hostile toward you for asking this simple question. These people would rather ignore this obvious fact rather than talk about this issue in an honest way. I think that many blacks do not have a good role model in their lives. Nobody is born a criminal. Many black children grow up in single parent families and they live in crime ridden areas. They see all the people around them committing crimes and think that this is normal behavior. I would like to make it clear that majority of blacks are good people who make an honest living. But it is a large minority of their total population who resorts to committing crimes rather than making a living in an honest way. It is also the gangster culture which tells many black children that acting like thugs is cool and paying attention to education is "acting white". Their is a large section of people who tell blacks that they are the victims and they don't need to do hard work to succeed. So many just act like victims by going on welfare and commit petty crimes. I don't believe that poverty is the reason for the high rates of crime among blacks. Their are desperately poor countries in the world such as India and yet they do not have nearly as high crime rate as U.S. It is the lack of family values and good role models which leads to crime.

Some say the social inequities bred a subculture of hustlers and people who "work" off the radar.

I'm 31, when I was in High School I was told by BLACK STUDENTS I wasn't black enough because I was SMART!!! This is what black Americans think of themselves?

We are like into our 4th generation of defeatist attitudes and useless heros. WAKE UP BLACK AMERICA.

Also, black are convicted at a higher rate than whites and its been proved that they are given harsher sentences than whites for the same crimes...that also helps make our numbers higher in prison.

I think you better check your statistics! This number is about doubled for the hispanic population! I worked security at a department/grocery store in INDIANA for 3 years and about 88% of shoplifters that were caught were Hispanic! They were trying to walk out with Full baskets of items mostly electronics and Booze we would arrest them and they would resist arrest! Several baskets had over $3000.00 of items in them!

It is a cultural misunderstanding mostly. Many crimes are blamed on blacks. Many crimes are assumed to be committed by blacks. And many of them are brought into the life by a persisting dogma of fighting the system, so they fall into it. Also, since police are looking to find blacks, assuming they are guilty, they get caught more often. Whites commit the most crimes bar none. They blend in easier, and get away with things easier. Some serial killers go on free to murder for many years. And all the government people commit felonies on a daily basis, shredding domuments, rather than polishing fingerprints clean.
Many convicted blacks could have gotten off if they understood the system clearly, which they are culturally encouraged not to do.

I wonder if Blacks actually commit more crime (including "white collar" crime) or if we just go to jail for crime for often...

Anyway...Why do people keep asking this? The answer is simple.

Perhaps the correctional instituions such as reform schools or juvenile detentions centers don't cousel like they do for white kids. Plus the parents of white children have more money and clout and can get their kids out. I do not think all black people or Latinos commit crimes, we just never hear the statistics for the whites. White people or just plain bad people (I hate labels) commit white collar crimes, serial killings, hate crimes etc. They just don't get caught and jailed as much.

Perhaps there was discrimination in the past, which caused the families to be poorer (on average) in the present, which causes the young people to seek other, illegal ways of gaining money. Also, discrimination on the streets (cops) and in the courthouses can contribute to the statistics.

Of course there would have to be studies on these, to verify them, but that's the P.C. theory.
