Cramped up during the exercise. Had a menstrual cycle last week Feb 20th, but it had stopped on the 25th.

This is caused by low potassium. Be careful. If you are on a high protein diet you lose a lot of potassium and this causes cramping. Of course, even if you don't diet your body could just be one that uses a lot of it.Check out this site for foods high in potassium.

Cramp is due to a build up of Lactic Acid in the muscle tissue, caused by overworking the muscle too soon.
I know its painful every jogger has had cramp. Stretching for a reasonable period before exercise will warm up the muscles and prevent cramp.

Cramps can be caused by a menstural cycle. They are also caused by not properly warming up all muscle areas properly through a generous dose of calistenics. If you have a deficiency of potasium in your body that will cause your muscles to cramp too. Fluid intake will help keep muscles from cramping but should not be overdone because they will cause you to feel heavy and may cause you to vomit from stomach acids that heat up when running.
