in extenuating circumstances, is it possible for an amendment to be suspended?

Yes. By way of example, the Writ of Habeas Corpus (Due Process--5th and 14th Amendments) has been suspended numerous times. Three examples that I can think of are when Pres. Lincoln supended it during the Civil War and more recently it was suspended during WWI and in the case of Japanese-Americans (Nisei) during WWII when they were "relocated" inland from the west coast.

Rights may sometimes be suspended in special, extenuating circumstances, but an Amendment remains in force until repealed by another Amendment.

No. Then it wouldn't be worth the paper it's written on. Only a formal repeal would work.

Only if martial law is invoked. Or if your a suspected terrorist.
