"The Informer"------An early and classic John Ford film, set during the Troubles in Ireland of the early 1900's----stark, raw, with an Oscar-winning performance by Victor McLaglan as the slow-witted Gypo Nolan, who betrays his friend Frankie to the English soldiery for money, and then spends it all in a single night, and is then gunned down by Frankie's compatriots in revenge for the betrayal. Some fine Irish-American actors, a haunting score by Max Steiner, and scenes you'll never forget.
It's a great drama--I did enjoy it, and still have a copy on VHS.
