100 years ago, China was very weak. The superpowers at that time called China the "sleeping Lion" or the"dead lion". Now, China is catching up with the world in all aspects. Is China becoming a superpower?

China has been recognized as a superpower for nearly three decades.

As to growth - yes, they are growing faster than any other major nation in the world, and at huge economic and environment cost.

They are still a communist-led country that is not a democracy and the state has the power to nationalize everything. They have turned fully 20% of their available land into desert and poisoned every single one of their major rivers. They are set to exceed the US as the most-polluting nation in two years. And while the standard of living is slowly growing in China, a full 70% of their population still exists on less than $30/month income and lives in dwellings without water and/or electricity (or proper sanitation).

I'm not impressed.
