Buy it now is what would work for you.
Additionally, perhaps you need to bid higher each time. The way bidding works is that so long as you always bid your highest bid at the beginning, you will never be outbid or pay out too much. THis is the PROXY system which Ebay has in place and which works every time you bid.
What you have also most likely seen is last minute bidding which is called "sniping." Buyers who can snipe can put in a large bid at the end of an auction, almost guaranteeing both a good chance of a win AND the fact that the other bidders (who, like you, bid LOW to begin with) have no change to return to the auction and out bid them. By bidding your highest bid at the beginning you will never pay more than you want, and cannot be outbid by someone not willing to pay more.
Now, how to snipe. You can use some websites to snipe, but the real trick is in doing it yourself.
Sit down at the computer a few minutes before the auction ends and get all logged in (to the internet, to Ebay, etc) and open TWO Browser Windows.
In the first window, go to the auction and click REFRESH on your browser. You will see the amount of time left in the auction. Reduce the size of the window to only about 1/4 the size of the screen, showing JUST the time left in the mini-browser window.
Next, go to the SECOND window and browse to the same auction. Enter in y our BID - BUT DO NOT CLICK SUBMIT. Again resize the window to be as small as the first window with just the SUBMIT button viewable in the mini-browser window. Arrange the two windows on your screen so that you can easily get to both by merely moving the mouse.
Now, click on the FIRST window and click Refresh. (Here you will need a good fast connection, so dial up may keep you from making the fast bid your require.) Keep clicking refresh as you watch the time wind down on the auction time left. Keep refreshing the auction page in the FIRST Browser window until the time is right. (Here you will need experience to know what you will need. I usually wait for the 5-10 second time limit.)
Quickly move your mouse to the SECOND window and click the SUBMIT Button TWO TIMES. (clicking once will only activate the window, so you will need to click AGAIN to activate the button.)
With the right timing, you can put in a bid in the final seconds too.
Now, lastly, you will need to understand the PROXY system. You may be bidding against someone who has a large proxy set in place. You only see the high bid. If your final SNIPE BID is not larger than the PROXY already set, you will lose the auction.
Follow this: Bidder A puts in a Proxy bid of $5. The high bid now shows as $1.00 as "A" is the first bidder. Bidder B comes along and bids $4.00. The high bid now shows as $4.25 with Bidder A still being the high bidder. T]he proxy of $5.00 bid against Bidder B automatically, Bidder A wasn't even aware of the bid! So, if you are Bidder B, Bid as stated above even with a Snipe bid, you must always bid your highest bid (Don't go over what you want to pay for the item.) This way you won't ever be outbid OR be forced to pay too much for an item.

Hi there
All you can do is keep a close eye on the auction as it gets to the end to make sure you're not oubid. If you keep and eye on it, you may be able to submit another bid before the end.
