Okay for the last 4 weeks ive been really really down in the pits, really emotional, and frustrated on my life. Putting my self down making unnessacary suicide comments becuase of listening to my mom, make assumptions on why i've been so down. I've been really anxious latley *more then usually*. But this week for some reason ive just been anxious! and my doctor reffered me to go talk to somebody at the mental health clinc and dont know if i should becuase i feel better. Whats your say?

I have personally suffered with manic depression for over 10 years. I know that when I was younger I used to have up and down periods like you were describing here. I also know that everytime I would think about seeking treatment, I would then feel better and talk myself out of it. I could not see the point of getting treatment when I was feeling better. Well hind-sight is 20/20. I delayed getting help for so long, that I ended up hitting rock bottom, without a leg to stand on. I was lucky in the fact that I was under 18 when I hit bottom, and my parents were every supportive. Otherwise I would probally be dead or in jail right now. Once you have hit rock bottom, it is a very long up hill battle, that I would avoid if at all possible. If I could go back, I would have seeked treatment the first chance possible. Once you fall off the edge, it is so hard to come back from. Where you are now, you still have time before you hurt everyone around you and possibily yourself. I know that noone likes to be labeled "mentally ill" but if I have to take a pill everyday that makes me not want to kill myself anymore, the why does it matter. If I was diabetic and had to take pills evryday so that I did not die, how is that any different then taking mood-stablerizers so I do not kill myself. I guess what I am trying to say is that to go a a therapist is no big deal. Most therapist are really nice and are honestly there to help you. If you wait, it may be too late and you may have done things that you'll regret for the rest of your life. Take this from someone who has been there done that. Your already questioning if you should go, what would be the harm? If you go just a couple of times and find that it is not for you, what is the harm in that? I full-heartly believe that if one is even questioning seeking treatment they should. If not for themselves for those around them.

It might still be a good idea, since the a mental health professional may have a better idea of why you were down. He or she could make an evaluation and say you were simply sleep deprived or low on vitamins. Maybe you have bi-polar disorder or need to learn to cope with stress more effectively. At any rate, since your mom was only annoying you, it would be good to have someone skilled in being non-judgemental to vent to if nothing else. Stress can be managed without freaking out family by mentioning suicide! :)

Even though you may be feeling a bit better this week you should still go and talk to someone. Just because you feel better today doesn't mean that those thoughts and feelings are resolved. It doesn't hurt but will definitely help to talk out your feelings with a third party who is totally neutral. You definitely don't want to feel that way on a regular basis so get some help now and you will be much happier.

There is a certain point where you are going to need to get help. But a therapist ,really can't tell a person about them. only THAT person ca, so i believe you know exactly what you need to do to keep yourself in aclear mental state. It may be sub-conciouse, but everyone knows how to help themselves.

Pick up a book, it's really good for the mind, helps relieve stress. I read before bed everynight.

Read "The Four Agrements"
There is one passage in there, where it talks about how other people will try and drag YOU to their personell hells with them,.
And the only way they CAN do that, is if you AGREE to it.
This book helped me a lot. It's based on ancients Toltec Wisdom.

It never hurts to talk.

A lot of times mental patients stop taking their medications because they "feel better", and it's the worst mistake they can make. Go ahead, talk to the doctor. If there's something bothering you, they might be able to help you deal with it. And if your anxiety was just a phase or a cycle, and it's over, even better. At least you'll know one way or the other.

I wish I could write something to make every worry and trouble of yours go away! All I can write is that so far in your life you've lived.....20 or less years! You have another 20 more years that anything can happen! Your life can change in those 20 more years, and who knows what will happen, but it definitely has to be better than it is now for you! Patients and you will see the remarkable change, I feel for you!

I've been in your shoes before and I talked to someone once a week for about 6 months, even when I was feeling good I would go in and talk and it made me feel even better. Sometimes all we need to do is talk to someone knowing they can't tell ANYONE anything you say to them. Just go and talk for awhile and the counselor will let you know when they think your ready to move on.

Hey,
what's bringing you down? Did something happen? I think talking to someone, anyone for that matter helps to relieve the anxiety that can build up. There is nothing wrong with seeing someone to talk to, especially if mom is driving you nuts.
Please address your thoughts of suicide, that worries me the most, even if they are unnecessary you are still versing it aloud.
let us know what is going on and at least talk to us until you see someone!

i say that you should go and see mental health person and get to bottom of what is bothering you! depression is a serious illness, and there is treatment available for it! it depends on ones age also. if you are a young kid, and i suspect so, then get some help, and develop some new friends, hobbies, and other things that you enjoy doing! this will help you get focused on a positive attitude again!

GO, TALK.

The worst it can do is cost you an hour.

The best it can do is improve the rest of your life.

To risk wasting an hour for the chance at a better life is a bet I would make on any day of the week.

Good luck, NOW GO...
