They've tried hard to prove to the world that america isnt as great as it seems.
This is what a German friend said to me last night. Made me think about the future.

When we stooped to the level of the terrorists, we lost all credibility. Bush and the right have made us into buffoons.

Professing greatness in present day, using arguments from the past, are irrelevant.
The reality is that the rest of the world is tired of the American ego. And really, they see no justification for it. When the US was up in arms over Clinton's sexual 'scandal', the world laughed at how much money was spent and the amount of time and energy and coverage it received. They look at the current situation and marvel at the small mindedness, and the inability to see the big picture.
America is a legend in its own mind.

For all the jingoism of the Bush administration, they've done everything but convince the world of the greatness of the US. That being said, though, I still think the US is great, but it'll be even greater after the 2008 elections.

During the 1930's, the German people made a huge mistake because the Nazis promised to rid their nation of the Communists, so they let the Nazis take over.
Now, in the 2000's history repeats itself, just in a different land.
Please remember, as the Germans do, that you can't believe one word that comes out of a Nazi's mouth.

I love America and thank God every day that I was born here and not somewhere else. That being said, I can understand why people outside of the US hates us, as we ignored the will of the rest of our allies when we went into Iraq.

but it is a great nation ! Point out to Your friend, that part of its
greatness is a factor in why his country is united today !
