Soon, child. Soon we will be the minority.
Enjoy your hegemony while you can.

Thats not going to happen.
although i agree that for equality and parity, there should be both.
But the main reason is, that the main focus of history centres around the white races. This is purely because the white races crossed the countries and built colonies. Im talking about the nordic races, the germans, english, and eventualy americans.
It was these people who communicated, recorded and celebrated their history, and shaped the rest of the world in their image.
So of course most of the history we study is white history.
And the black history which was recorded differently by their peoples wasnt widely available to everyone, so most of it isnt recorded in a reliable way.
The reliable black histiory which is celebrated is the recent stuff which has occurred in a mainly white society.
i hope that answers your question.

It is important for parity, I agree. I think that if there were not a time set to focus on minority (soon to be majority) history, there would be little minority history taught. even as it is, there is little "black" history taught.
Mostly is seems that it's white people feeling like they are losing something or pissed off because they think it unfair that someone has something they don't. It's always amazed me at how greedy straight white American males are and no other group can have something without them complaining.

Haha, I asked that same question to my 8th grade english teacher, and she was convinced that I was a racist for the rest of the year. She even made snide remarks about how I didn't like African American people because I thought White History Month was a good idea. Which is completely false.lol

That is a good question. And further more....we should start referring to ourselved not as white....but as European Americans!!! And also....people argue that so many other races have "months" but you have to admit..."black history month" gets the most attention.
Go White History Month!!!

Honestly, because it is mostly whites that made most of history.
Therefore, there is no need for a specific "white history month" because you're studying it for the rest of the year.

There is a petition being circulated on the Web that is addressed to “All Whites.” It has been signed by thousands of people, and reads in part: “We believe that if African Americans and now Hispanics can have their history month for their heritage, why can’t the White Americans have White history month? Wake up Americans before we become extinct! Please, sign my petition so that we can also have our White history month.”
More on this editorial.

The more we focus on diversity and insist upon it (IE affirmative action, various racial history months, multi-culturalism courses and the like), the more pronounced and important become our differences rather than our similarities. In a perfect world, we would celebrate human goodness year round, which would inspire us to rise above race and culture, and would shame those who prefer to act inhumanely.
