What kinds of accessories can I use?

For a mini- project, my son is going to dress up as any chosen character from his choice of books. My son picked Elliot from "Open Season." Any ideas in creating an outfit and/or accessories to represent this character?

Is Elliot a bear? (I googled "Open Season, Elliot).

I'd be apt to suggest brown fuzzy caps with furry bear ears on them, or a brown bear suit... if Elliot is a bear..

And then for a nose, black face paint, etc...

Or can it not be literal, and has to represent Elliot (the bear), but not look like a bear??... :) Need more info!
