For example, if I am making a decision within the dream, or something happens, I sometimes think, within my dream 'Oh well, but it doesn't matter because this is not real, it is only a dream'.
Is this dreaming? Or is it a state of conciousness? Is it possible to be conciously aware of things within a dream?

"Lucid Dreaming" is something a lot of people wish they could do. like you, I am fortunate in that most of the time I know when I am dreaming, too.
In fact, I have even confronted things or people that were menacing me in unpleasant dreams and threatened them with "Back off and leave me alone or I'll wake myself up and then YOU will cease to exist." Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't - sometimes I actually DO have to wake myself up. As a matter of fact, two nights ago, a friend and I were locked in a dungeon, awating execution in a rather nasty dream, and I recall saying to my friend, "We're going to have to find a way out of this pretty quick or I'll have to wake myself up."

However, in pleasant dreams, I often find myself touching things just to feel their physical form in my hands in an effort to convince myself that I'm NOT dreaming - that the experience is real - but it never works. I really DO know I am dreaming and I still wake up no matter how much I am enjoying the dream and trying not to awaken out of it.

Enjoy this wonderful ability we call "Lucid Dreaming" and play with it. When you realize you are dreaming, try to exert conscious control over the events and occurrances around you in the dream. I believe it is a like any skill - capable of improving with practice. (I think my own levels have improved somewhat with practice.)
