As a non-stutterer, I believe there surely must be worse disabilities. Some people are living from a wheelchair or as amputees. To me, that seems pretty tough to know that you will never walk, or play the piano again, or play the sport you loved for years.

For anyone WITH that or any other disability, there is none worse though, because it is what they're battling. I knew I guy who stuttered. I know for a fact that it didn't mean he was mentaly challenged in any way. He was a very clever, sharp person. I think that with some speech therapy, it often gets much much better. And I think if you are able to prove yourself as far as your job-related capabilities are concerned, any non-discriminating employer would be more than happy to hire you.

No stuttering isn't the worst disability you can have although I'm sure it is hard to deal with. I am disabled and live in chronic pain 24/7. I would trade with you any day. I look fine when you see me, so people just don't get that I am in sever pain the majority of the time. We all have disabilites in some form. Low self esteem can be disabling. Be yourself and try to calm yourself before an interview. The more nervous you get the worse the stuttering I would imagine. Work on what you are going to say before you go. Practice will make you feel more comfortable. Keep your chin up and don't let stupid people get you down. Things could always be worse.

I completely understand, but you know people generally think anyone with any kind of disability is mentally challenged and won't hire them, so it's not just people who stutter.

It's not right of course, but generally people don't hire disabled persons out of their own ignorance and fear. They can't imagine what they'd do if they had a disability so they think persons with disabilities must be incapable or that it'd be too uncomfortable for others in their staff or their customers and they try and pass it off as they're doing you a favour by not hiring you so you won't feel scapegoated.

I have heard there have been some treatments to help with people who stutter. John Stossel of ABC News' 2020 apparently stutters or stuttered so there is hope. You just have to find the right employer.

Have you joined a support group for people who stutter or just a general support group for people with disabilities like at an independent living center? That may help too.

Good luck.

Its definately not a disability bert. Another thing i might add is that stuttering is something that only real dopes laugh at. It can be so upsetting to the person who stutters and can be embarrasing ONLY for the person who has it. Silly really, because i think nobody really takes any notice of it! 2 of my own friends have it. One of them has it pretty bad but im not bothered one bit. I just listen carefully. At least, you know that people will actually try to listen to you and youre views will be heard more clearly than anyone without a stutter. Think about what i said. When you have a stutter, people wont pretend to be listening. They will focus on what you are saying and wont forget easily what you said. I think its actually an advantage. I speak perfectly but half of what i say isnt actually really heard. See what i mean bud?

Anyone who has to deal everyday with anything that is different than most people think they have a terrible time of it unless they are optimistic and don't let what others think run their lives. Check out the web site for The Stuttering Foundation and download their brochure for employers. Look under "brochures for all ages." A cousin who stutters took it to his interviews or mailed it ahead of time letting them know that he stuttered. He never tried to hide his stuttering as he found that he got worse when he tried to hide it. He and several uncles who stuttered got The Stuttering Foundation's book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" and after studying it and working hard finally stopped stuttering.

Absolutely not ! The idea here is not to take your speech difficulty as a 'disability' that can never be fixed or addressed except with medication. Take your time pronouncing and annunciating the words correctly despite how quickly your mind is thinking of things. Train your mind to be in sync with your mouth by slowing down some. Stuttering is NOT an indication of how mentally adept you are, it is indicative of a speech problem that is not stupid but rather difficult to follow through on. Talk to a speech pathologist if you still feel like this 'problem' has no solution, although I believe it does.

gentle hugs bright one !

No! and its not legal for a business not to hire you because you stutter. A stutter can be overcome and may dissappear in time. An amputee can't grow another limb. Count the blessings you have and don't let rude, cruel people rule your life. God bless.

It's not the worst disability, because you can still walk, talk, move and you have all your senses. It isn't fun, but you can get help from a speech therapist. If people make fun of you for it, that's just wrong. Don't give up, God has a purpose for you, and just remember there's always someone that has a worse situation than you. God bless.

There are not incapacity reward for stuttering. even nevertheless . . . in case you're clinically determined by skill of a doctor as having a particular scientific difficulty that motives stuttering, then you fairly would be lined by skill of the ADA (people with Disabilities Act), and your enterprise will could desire to offer you "real looking lodging" so which you will carry out your interest. I worked with a deaf fellow (unemployment is approximately 70% interior the deaf community), and that's all that my enterprise ever did for him. All they actually did replaced into have somebody translate what replaced into spoken in conferences into American sign language, and that replaced into it. He replaced into on his very own after that. The multi-national tech enterprise I worked for did no longer have too many engineers older than 40. i don't be responsive to what occurred to them (grew to become them into Soylent eco-friendly for the cafeteria, i assume). So if it fairly is incapacity reward contained in one in each and every of those $$$, it fairly is not there. on no account replaced into. The ADA demands employers to make minor changes so as that disabled people can do their jobs, yet while the enterprise claims that it could be too plenty worry to alter your place of work to accommode your stuttering problem, properly, you're SOL. for greater documents, touch your community branch of exertions. For greater advantageous government, vote for greater advantageous politicians. desire this enables,
