Buying a new video card and need to know if this is even important . . .

GDDR2 and GDDR3 are 2 different types of memory.

The long and short of it: GDDR3 is a bit faster than GDDR2. There is also GDDR4, which is even faster.

Performance differences are hard to pin down, since you aren't likely to find cards with the same GPU using different memory types.

Realistically, you should worry more about whether the card supports DirectX version 10, now that Vista is here. If you're going to be sticking with this card a while, DX10 will get you further than slightly faster memory.

Edit: When I say faster, I'm referring to the fact that since they run at lower voltages, the card manufacturers can up the clock speeds on the memory, eeking out a bit more speed.
