On March 12, 1930, Mahatma Gandhi started his march to Dandi from Sabarmati Ashram with 78 volunteers. Thousands joined him along the route. The group reached Dandi April 5, where Mahatma Gandhi made salt, breaching the oppressive Salt Act of the British rulers. Such is the response to the anniversary event here that even a 95-year-old man wants to participate. "The response is beyond our expectations. The oldest participant will be somebody who is 95," Tushar Gandhi said.
