Because social services take your children away if you tell them off these days.

The younger parents today are the result of a changed family system, where both parents most often worked and the children were put in daycare. These kids then became parents and do the same. The fatherly role model is often removed. The parents want to make up for lost time and allowing their children a freedom that is often harmful to them. I was raised in a society where the moms were still at home and the dads went to work. It was great. Disobedience wasn't allowed because that's what they stood for. Nowadays, parents are often too tired from earning all that money, that they simply can't or want to deal with stuff. The kids know it too. They push to the limits in hopes their parents would notice and stop them just to see that not happening. They then lose respect for their parents and any authority figure and are often lonely and angry.

Ok, you used the word "today", which means that you've probably already had your children and you are retired. If this is correct, then here's your answer: The World is a Completely Different Place Than When You Raised Your Kids. Or, haven't you read that book?
And, get this, if you did have kids, and they are all grown up, then they are part of this problem. So extrapolating a little further, if you are connected to your kids, then might you not be part of this "so useless and lacking in control today"?

Because the have to work and keep an eye on their children at the same time. They are up at 6 am, they have to sort there children out and get them ready for school, take them to school and then go and do a full days work as well as looking out for there children. Then they get back from work by about 6. If there child is a teenager they probably wont see them for the rest of the day. That is one of the many reasons why parents are so usless. because they don't have the time to spend with the children.

Too many parents from across the spectrum of the 'social classes' are abdicating responsibility for their children, preferring instead to leave the majority of not only their child's academic but also moral education to their teachers and peers.

Some parents appear to be afraid to do anything as regards tempering their children's disrespectful attitudes and those parents who are attempting to keep control of their offspring are hampered at every turn by the ever louder p.c. brigade who advocate leniency and cuddling as the only acceptable alternatives to corporal punishment.

Despite rumours to the contrary you do not need to beat your child in order to discipline them but you do need to mean 'no' when you say 'no' and follow through as regards punishments-whether that's a naughty step, grounding or the removal of privileges.

If the under 16's in general were given a few less rights and a few more rules we would see a marked decrease in street crime, anti-social behaviour, teenage pregnancies and truancy as all those adults who currently keep their curtains, doors and mouths closed for fear of unchecked reprisal from teen gangs would be leaning out of the window telling them in unison to 'go home and behave themselves'.

And they would,(go home that is).

Because instead of coming round and telling the tax paying resident that shouting at Mrs Smith-Barrowson-Jones's son is naughty and it's a shame that teens have nothing to do (regardless of what they REALLY think) the police or community officer would take him home or down the station and put the fear of 'whichever religious symbol takes your fancy' into him.

If only there were a few more parents like those who raise their heads above the p.c. parapet on here-common sense speaking disciplinarians who aren't afraid to do the right thing by their children regardless of the potential tantrum then our society wouldn't be in the mess it is now.

They are too lazy to keep after their kids consistently. They let the TV be the babysitter. They have thier kids in daycare all the time because they have to work and then they try to make up for the lack of time spent by spoiling them and letting them get away with murder. They don't want to be criticized by a society, which, right now, thinks kids should be coddled. Each generation gets more lax than the last.

Blame it on the takeover of the government with laws that forbid parents to upbring their child like they're supposed to. It started a few generations back as parents paid less attention because of the laws. Too bad that no one has provided some idea to get government to pay child support without penalty to parents since the government wants to take over. Then maybe you'll be a little easier to your parents.

Most are not useless and care very much for their children. I think peers have a huge influence over kids and kids learn bad behavior and disrespect for other people from other kids who weren't brought up to respect others. It is therefore very difficult for parents to correct this even with loving but firm disciplinary measures. I don't think the parents should be blamed for this. At least not in general.

Because both parents....work every day long hrs...trying to provide a good living to their famillies...and the parents...have no time to raise their children...This job is given to outsiders, like Schools, Youth centers, grandparents, old relatives, babysitters...Yes!!! today's children are raised by estrangers...and as the children growing up the bond, respect, loyalty, honor, appreciation, love...between the parents and childrens dissapear...Young parents to day due to the cost of living can't buy a house or car for the familly...Long hrs at work...can't give the proper care day by day to their children.

Let's not generalise, most parents are good at the job, it's those who were left to their own devices in their own childhood that are often the disfunctional contributors to Family life. The permissive society in the 70/80's did nothing to generate solidarity in some minds.

There is a simple answer to this is that we are too soft nowadays!!! in my day in school you said boo to a teacher and you got the ruler over the knuckles or the caine. Society is too soft now and there is no discipline, too many no gooders in Parliament with no kids telling us we cant do anything to our children. B*****CKS a quick clout didn't do me any harm and neither will it to my son.
When I mean clout i mean a quick smack on the hand, there is a difference between smacking and hitting
