Listen people we were also down trodden so why be bitter at us innocent southerners who were also poor and misfortunate?

I Agree with you on some of your argument but I think that you will find that more people owned a slaves then you think the Middle Class might own a slave or two to do house work and care for their children.

The whites of the south supported a systematic exclusion of the blacks by refusing to allow them to own property or have a business that could cater to both the white and the black communities. A slave was not allowed to work for another man and use the pay that he got for that job to pay for his freedom, it went to the master as rent. That was a right that they had until the late 1700's that had allowed indentured servants to get their freedom.

So don't go out raising the red flag of revolution for the oppressed white in the antebellum south. As a nation the United States has allot of debt to pay when it comes to slavery.
