My son was out by 6 months. We then used a rear-facing Eddie Baur car seat made by Cosco. Something though I wish I would have known.....
If we could have just waited even 6 more weeks he would have been a much better sitter and since you no longer have an infant seat to take around with you, you have to take the child out of the car seat all the time, if they are asleep or not, and they may not be able to sit in a grocery cart well yet. Follow the safety regulations first, but don't jump the gun is what I'm saying!

I found that the Cosco Alpha Omega was the best thing I have ever purchased. My son started using at 6 months and he is now 5 yrs and still uses it. I am having a baby in April and have plans to use this one when he is about 6 months as well. It is in awesome shape and looks new even after 5 yrs. I will have it checked this summer when we have the local police check the seats. But I have been extremely happy with this. It was over a $115.00 when I got it.. but well worth the money. Good luck.

Use a convertible car seat. The weight goes from 5 to 100 pounds and a height to 19 to 57 inches. He can go in it now as long as it is rear facing. Try this web site. www.digusa.com

from what i was told a infant has to be in a rear facing car seat until he/she is 1 year old and 20 pounds but he/she has to be both but could be a little older but has to reach that 20 pound mark before you switch. I'm sorry if that was confusing check out the link below it will give you guidelines on the age requirement.

The Triumph Premier Convertible Carseat; see the link at the bottom! We have one in each car, and our daughter absolutely loves it! So does about 6 other people I know who have let their little ones sit in ours, then bought one themselves. Oh, BTW, disregard the reviewers comments on the Babies R Us page, the straps are not difficult at all......if you read the directions! A couple of the comments even say they didn't read the directions, so just don't even pay attention. This seat is VERY secure, so yup, you have to know what your doing....and you'll feel great knowing that your child is completely safe. GOOD LUCK!

Your best bet would be to buy a convertible car seat. That way even when he is past the age of 1 he can still fit in it.

I really like the Graco Comfort Seats:

I have the flowered one since I have a little girl (6 months) but it's a great seat, it can recline so if they fall asleep they aren't sitting straight up, and it has great safety ratings at an affordable price. Hope this helps!!

your best bet would be to go to a baby store and look at what they have. Some of those carseats are difficult to figure out, and others are so easy. Go to different stores as well since everyone doesn't sell the same type. Remember they don't have to be expensive to work.

Love my Britax Decathalon convertable. My son's been using it since he was born. My in laws have a EvenfloTitan that is nice too. Both are great for tall kids. Sounds like your little one's going to be!
