I have a down featherbed and my youngest daughter had an overnight accident on it. I just paid $48 to have it dry cleaned less than one week ago, so I hate like heck to pay it again so soon. I found the manufacturer's tag on it, but there are no cleaning instructions at all. If I do wash it, I plan on taking it to the laundry mat and using the super large washer/dryer, but I just need to know if it can be washed first. Thanks!

I have washed mine many times. However....take my word for it....it's best to go to a laundromat and use a commercial washer because they are huge when you try to fit them into a standard washer.....also, they take forever to dry and don't fluff unless they have the room to move in a commercial dryer

$48 is not that bad. The bigger they are the more they will cost. Down can be washed or dry-cleaned. The big issue is when you wash them the dry time is very long, that is why it is so costly. Dry time is anywhere from 2 hours+ . The more down the longer dry time. When you rush it they may feel dry but when you lay on it is still wet then you get a musty smell. If you have the time great most people have better things to do then spend 3 to 4 hours in a laundry mat. Consider what what you save at a laundromat and add the time spent waiting, compared to the cleaners Good Luck.

I have down comforters, same type of event. I washed in large washer then put the comforter on a clothes line to dry. No problems! I actually used bleach in the water too. While it was drying, I fluffed it up a bit. Works great!

What is the major concern, is it wet? Use light bleach water in a spray bottle to clean and remove odors-this may take time. Who is the manufacturer? Get online and ask them. I washed my down coat and it worked but I lost some feathers, same with my husbands down hunting jacket.

Yes, just follow the instruction on the label. And if you put it in the dryer put some clean gym shoes in with it. The heavy shoes fall on the comforter and lossing and fluff the feather out. If not hang it on the line a beat and shake it.
