women did wear trousers but not many. some wore them to rebel agaisnt the ways of society, others wore them because it was more comfortable, espceally if they were doing hard work and needed loose fitting clothing that wasn't dangerous like dresses.They also were pants to go horseback riding, hunting, etc.
