I just searched North Cyprus on here and I am disgusted with what is written about the North. My best friend is a turkish cypriot and all that the people of north cyprus want is freedom and peace also...just as the greeks do. What is the problem with this island? Do not feel frightened or worried to go to North Cyprus its one of most beautiful and innocent places I have ever visited, the beauty cannot be justified with the word sublime, I'm English and I am proud of this island...don't feel afraid of this island.

People only hear of the "recent" problems regarding Cyprus and for the most part believe what they are told without doing unbiased research for themselves into the historical facts as to why Northern Cyprus is as it is..
I love this island also, I spent three years there as a child in the 50's and have numerous holidays back there...mostly to the Kyrenia/Girne area.

until 1974, the island was an united country but at those times there has been big war between turks and greeks in the island. so turkiye sent their troops in order to save turks' lives. however, all countries accepted south greek state as a country but they didnt accept north cyprus because of this war. they have embargoed the north for all years. this is in fact not fair also even the north said "yes" to Annan's plan, still no other country recognize it but turkiye and azerbaijan...

The problem with Cyprus is that in 1974 the Turks illegally seized the northern half of the island, cutting it off from the rest of the country. Cyprus is a sovereign nation, and what Turkey has done and continues to do is illegal. Unfortunately, the UN refuses to do anything about it, so all Cypriots suffer.

Of course the northern part of Cyprus is beautiful. Those of us that are from there pride ourselves for the natural beauty. The problem with tourist visiting the occupied areas of Cyprus with no worries is that the contribute to the looting of our properties stolen by the Turkish army. I don't know how pleasant a vacation can be knowing that. .... and of course all the people of Cyprus are wondeful regardless of their religion and language. What is wrong and disgusting is that Turkey occupies our country spliting us in two based on race and religion.
