NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Al Gore, a leading voice against global warming, is being criticized by a conservative group that claims his Nashville mansion uses too much electricity. A Gore spokeswoman said the former vice president invests in enough renewable energy to make up for the home's power consumption.
On Sunday, Gore's documentary film "An Inconvenient Truth," which chronicled his campaign against global warming, won an Academy Award.

The next day, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research issued a statement saying Gore was not doing enough to reduce his own electricity consumption. The group disputes that global warming is a serious problem. "We wanted to see if he was living by his own recommendations and walking the walk," said think tank president Drew Johnson. Utility records show the Gore family paid an average monthly electric bill of about $1,200 last year for its 10,000-square-foot home.

Finally, The Left wants to know why we are picking on their poor Al Gore. I am so sick of them dogging our president and nobody doing or saying anything about it. It is about time that we fight back with some of the crap the Left does and says and then flip-flop based on popular demand. Our country is a safer better place to live because of our commander and chief!!! If you dont like it leave!!! I am proud of our country and firmly believe that freedom is not free!! We are the best most powerful country in the world!!! The Left needs to stop the whining and crying because they didnt get their way. Stop trying to kill our service men loose the war and bash our people and our president!!! You dont want to work together face it you want the government to just hand you free money. Get a job and be part of society you can be rich if you want but your going to have to work just like everyone else does!!!

It's actually a non-story.

Gore buys electricity from the TVA who generates his portion (through investment and cultivation) of green power. As well, Gore also uses green techs at his home such as solar panels and non-methane lighting.

It's not how much power you use - but if you can cancel out your pollution footprint.

I admit his power consumption seems excessive (I'm glad I don't live in a 10k ft2 home! That's too big to be cosey!), but if he gives back as much or more to the environment he's not a net polluter.

Thorgirl, I didn't suggest for a moment that 'Green Power' is on a seperate grid - hence the parenthesis that say through investment and cultivation. I guess I have to explain that more clearly -> That means that the money Gore and others give to the TVA for 'Green Power' goes into the investment of green power such as building/maintaining hydroelectrics and cultivation such as windfarm and building channelized waterways (for increased power).

Yeah try getting your facts straight. He pays considerablly extra for having "all green power" which means the only power he gets comes from only renewable sources...at a cost of double the kw/hr. More over his property is loaded with extras like beefed up security and 10,000 sq ft is a rather large home.

Also...the "Tennessee Center for Policy Research" gets it's budget from big oil and the far right wing.

The alleged inconvenient actuality is that our burning fossil fuels is increasing the consequence widespread because of the fact the greenhouse consequence. the subsequent assertion is that the ice cores in antarctica and Greenland point out that as temperatures pass up we se larger CO2 levels in the ice. next, is is inconvenient to work out that our universal worldwide temperatures are increasing somewhat. With that increasing temperature we are seeing extra advantageous era and intensity of drought, extra advantageous frequency and severity of flooding, extra advantageous intensity of wind storms. from extra advantageous volumes of water vapor over eh oceans. Now for this reason some distance each and all of the above is obviously demonstrable. this is barely observational. What could be extra controvertible is the quantity to which fossil gas burning contributes to increasing CO2 levels, and the quantity to which we could desire to continuously characteristic mentioned worldwide warming to the two the upward push in CO2 or the source of CO2, fossil gas. this is obvious that earth has had worldwide warming and worldwide cooling till now without plenty human intervention. Mr Gore does leave an impression without asserting it, that we are in a position to offer up worldwide warming by utilising combating CO2 emissions. that's no longer, although provided as an inconvenient actuality. what's an inconvenient actuality in his narrative is that we could desire to coach for important climate differences, and we are partly inflicting the undertaking. Mr Gore does call for honoring Kyoto commitments, yet would not pass so some distance as to assert that Kyoto aims could be adequate to alter the path of world warming. (Kyoto aims have been set at a point that could enable oceanic sequestration to maintain up with new emissions, yet no longer yet decrease CO2 concentrations in the ambience. by utilising inference, they could keep CO2 concentrations severe adequate to ascertain that worldwide warming could proceed because it were as much as 1990.)

A little fairness, please, and some more facts.
Does Mr. Gore entertain at home? Do we know how many people live there on a regular basis, how many staff use facilities, how many guests have stayed there?
Could we consider he can account for himself?

i think this is good that this group is holding Gore to his own standards.. now I hope they do the same for themselves and many, any others.

Now, Mr. Gore.. it is up to you to practise what you preach. While I do admire the work you are doing.. you are the first to say.. it all begins at home...
