I've seen Simon Cowell only a few times on American Idol. He usually "tells people how it is". On the show he doesn't sugar-coat his opinions. What some people don't seem to realize is that he is playing a role to balance out the other members of the panel. I don't assume he is like that in everyday life. One other point: if the contestants can't handle what Simon Cowell gives then they are not going to last long in the entertainment industry.

Tells people how it is. Unfortunately he is up against 2 other people that sometimes sugar coat things or beat around the bush. Randy has gotten better about it, he's been more straight forward. Paula on the other hand has her moments where she is actually telling them how she really feels and yet, there are times when she still starts off with "you are a beautiful person" or "you looked beautiful in that dress" and I hate that. Get to the point, it's about their voice, not their dress. I appreciate Simon the most because I think everyone takes his opinion the most seriously.

A bit of both I think.

On one hand he is full of himself, constantly acts likes he's superior to everyone, sneers at people for no good reason, acts like everyone is stupid except for him and has a nasty habit of putting people down just for being human.

On the other hand - he is honest and tells it like it is, doesn't patronise people and doesn't give them false hope when they really cant sing or wont make it in the business, and when it really matters - he can be genuine and nice.

basically - the man just needs a good kick up the backside.

Simon takes a lot of guff for being the "mean one". But, when a contestant does well, he tells them so. By telling someone the truth, whether it is good or bad helps them be better or get out of the way for someone that is better.

he says it like it is and thats why everyone loves and respects him! He says what he thinks instead of telling the worst singer in the world that they have a great voice! Great job Simon

He says it how it is unfortunately to many people say nice safe answers and show themselves as fake. I rather people be honest and speak there mind listen to what he says it is normally just the truth i don`t understand why he is made out to be the bad man for being truthful. Ps He says compliments to people who deserve them so his praise is actually genuine if i say everyone is nice whats the point there is no merit in that.
