You're talking legal free music, right? Aside from the legality issues, file-sharing programs like limewire can include unwanted spyware, so should only be approached with care.

There are lots of options for legal free downloads, depending on what you're looking for, of course.

Some options:

- iTunes shop is supposed to have a free track or two per week

- check out the podcasts section of iTunes for lots of free downloads. Some podcasts have lots of music in them. For example, take a look at the CBC Radio 3 podcast for lots of new independent Canadian music artists.

- http://amazon.com has free MP3 downloads - look for "Free downloads" under the "Music" tab

- some music web-sites (sure as http://puretracks.com) give you a free weekly download if you subscribe to their newsletter

- the Cylinder Preservation & Digitization Project (http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/) has free music from the early 1900's

- take a look at http://archive.org and their sound archives

- there are lots of independent bands and music artists who are providing their music freely on the internet. Check out sites like http://myspace.com under their "Music" section - lots of artists provide music there.

- you can use iTunes to rip your own CDs

Good luck.

LimeWire is good, but also slow. The best way to download free music is with Ares. A safe page to download it is http://www.softonic.com/ .
