You can repair a scratch that no more than about 20% thru the leather.

First take a really sharp new fingernail sandpaper file and smooth down the edges of the scratch, do not be afraid of causing the scratch to be more visible, that smoothed area will easily be restained over and will become invisible.

After you have done about as good as you can, then take a small amount of polyurethane liquid glue and mix that with a colorant that is near the color you want it to be. You can try a spot on the crack, and if its not quite right add or deduct more colorant until you come pretty close to what you want color wise.

Then put a thin coat of the poly + colorant mix onto the scratch. A thin coat, never thick. wipe that with a WET piece of cloth and smooth it out neatly. You may have to apply 2 or 3 thin coats but in the end, your repair will become invisible and it will be permanent and flexible. I am certain you will be happy with this as this is pretty much how it is done in the furniture repair business.

Buy the liquid Polyurethane Adhesive and colorant at Lowes or Home Depot or any good paint store.

The key to a successful repair on this type of damage is a good colour mix. You can send away a small sample and have a colour exactly matched for you which will then not show up when you do your repair. You do not need to use glue as the pigments also contain filler and finish so you can do everything with the colour.

Please do not use shoe polish as it will come off on peoples clothes and will not match your leather so will make things look much worse.

A scratch on a leather sofa will not "spread" anywhere. Think of it as a scratch on your leather shoe. Touch it up with matching polish (like shoe polish - only in more colors) and you should be good to go. It will be OUR little secret then.

Try using cuticle remover. Rub it into the scratch and wait 10 min. then wipe it down thoroughly, or try a crayon the same color as the sofa.
