I know that holiday entitlement increases from 21 days to 24 days from October this year, and from 2008 to 28 days - this in effect means that bank holidays are not "special" days - ie you don't necessarily have the right to take them as a day off, and you just have extra days that can be taken at any stage in the year.

Having said that, I know that is for employed staff rather than agency staff, who normally only get paid for the actual hours they work. When I worked for an employment agency years ago, we used to reward loyal temporary staff by giving them holiday pay when they had worked for a certain period of time.

I hope that helps!

Yes this is the case with agencies until you have been with them a certain amount of time. Contrary to common belief it isn't a statuatory requirement to be paid for bank holidays whether agency or otherwise, this will be depend on your contract of employment.

Well I am employed direct and I get paid for my bank holidays, although not for sickness.

If you are agency, I dont think they do pay you for them.
