Like Bratz and others, do they make little girls want to dress in the wrong type of clothes and send out the wrong signals?

The Cindy and Barbie girls of my generation played with never dressed so trashy, does it matter?

Well to me at least Barbie and Cindy didn't seem so sexualized and I agree about their limbs and breasts, but their faces looked kind of human.

The excess "sexiness" of young girls dolls is disturbing as they adopt these mannerisms in a innocent way (wanting to copy a role models appearance) & it is interpreted by the world in another way, ie that certain clothes make you "easy" or a target for sexual advances. An adult woman is able to make a choice for herself and is aware of these, often totally incorrect, assumptions where most children will have no idea they are being judged as anything but "cool".
Even worse is the attitude being passed on through these dolls is that the most important thing you can do is look "sexy" rather than be clever, nice, hardworking or independent, no one expects action man to be "funky" while he saves the world!

Absolutely, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this concern, I think that Bratz dolls are the worst thing that could happen to the toy industry, and unfortunately to our girls.

When we all were little we just wanted to be like barbie or like the princess in the story tales, that's how we would dress up, I can't imagine a 5 yr. old emulating one of the Bratz, with the "over the top make up" and the skimpy clothes.

The problem is that some moms actually think that's cute and encourage them buying the dolls and the clothes to resemble them... What a pity.

I think you're wrong. Barbie and Cindy were portraits of women that young girls could never be with their stick thin figures, huge breasts and mini skirts. Dolls have always been like this.

Edit - Just read your additional details and I agree that their faces were definately more human like, however, in my opinion they were always sexualised and I think they always gave young girls the wrong impression about how they should grow up, however, there are other factors in how well a child grows up and how they dress as an adult. Good question though.

Bratz is just annoying, especially with that god-awful ghetto Z on the end. What I found most annoying was when I left the TV on Fox one morning and they had an episode of the show. The girls were scantily clad, and saying they were journalists. That POd me to no end, as I work my derriere off to make money as a newsperson, and there is no way on earth a real newsie would go in and dress like THAT! What an insult!

And what is this teaching our younger people? That women are supposed to do these things to get where they want to be? Oh heck no. I hate that.

Agree with the proposition that dolls look like people want them to look like.
At 12, I was reading the Beano and Dandy, nowadays it is glossy girly magazines. The kids want to emulate so-called 'Celebs'. They see kids like Peaches Geldoff in scanty clothes and think it is cool.
All the time parents allow this sort of thing, then the doll manufacturers will continue to turn out these dolls.
But they are going to be behind the times. Because before they turn out a size zero doll, puplic pressure will force the fashion industry into using healthy models.
Good question.

Bratz dolls and their associated paraphernalia are just one reason that little girls are dressing more and more like mini Lolita's.

The continued targeting of our pre-teens with sexually inappropriate ideals, clothing ranges and literature has got to stamped on from a great height by the legislators-and now!

Cindy and Barbie, while they had their retrospective faults as regards their impossible body ideals, were in the main activity dolls, in as much as they were doing something interesting like ballet, horse riding or caravanning-their sole purpose wasn't to represent and encourage shining examples of exactly what it says on the tin-the brats of our neighbourhood.

Parents are abdicating their responsibilities left, right and centre, and by allowing their young innocents to dress and act in a manner unbecoming of their age and irrespective of their lack of maturity they allow the insidious erosion of their children's childhood to continue unchecked.

While these huge multi-national companies continue to prey on our children's naivety we the parents must stand tall as their guardians and say 'no' to trashy inappropriate dolls, clothes and magazines alike-regardless of the ensuing tantrum.

That said, I was not only greatly surprised but reassured by the overwhelming response to the last question I asked(now closed-not gaming) on a related topic, with saCAT on page6 giving a news web link for Bratz in particular if you care to have a look.

I think it's the other way around. The girls want to dress like that, so the dolls look like that.
You can pick clothes for them. Why do the inappropriate ones sell better? Nobody buys pajama Barbies.

Look girls wearing skimpy clothes are simply expressiing their ferility and and need for a guy.

Just like guys showing off, wearing falshy trainers, driving around in pimped up wheels to act cool.

The young girls are trying to act like teen girls only not getting what the clothes are about... Ie they think guys have boy coodies.

The reason why teenagers like 'trashy clothes ' as you put it is that they have more egg cells and more baby producing capacity.

Plus homonres make them try and get a guy to get them knocked up earlier so with luck they will bring up the child enough to survive before a preditor or other death befalls the mum...

Its just now we live longer.

Bratz are not really good for young girls... its better they have action girls or dolls more their age.

When a little older then fine.

When know why girls where short skirts...

its only being pretty on a stronger level like guys showing off muscells.

Oh and your cindie and barbie were not good examples either.

the words pathetic money obessed bimbos comes to mind...

ie porn models only job
