Being as I used to sell these, but no longer, I can give you an honest opinion. They are very good Vacuums, there is not doubt about that, they can do some pretty incredible things. But is a vacuum worth 1500 dollars, no way. It will last you forever, but so will a 400 dollar vacuum and an 1100 dollar plasma TV. So I'd say unless you have severe allergies or have money coming out of everywhere, nah, pass on that and spend your money on something that you'll use every day and not once a week at max.

You might go to the library and read Consumer Reports latest assessment of the machine -- March 2006.. The magazine think it's pretty good but way overpriced. They list two Kenmores, three Hoovers, and a Eureka higher. The prices range from $140 to $300. They list the Kirby at $1330.
I understand from a couple of people I know who worked at Kirby that it is a high pressure sales environment. The very fact that they have salesmen coming to the house is one indication that the cost of such sales has to be borne by the consumer. The other vacs I mentioned require you to go to the store.

In my opinion its NOT worth it!! Yea they are supposed to be soo good, but I went and got myself a $70 Dirt Devil and it works much better than the Kirby ever would. It's bagless has great filters and attachments but not an overwhelming amount. If you are looking for a vacuum that's the one I would get if I were you. Hope this helps.

It is definitely not worth the price. No vacuum cleaner is worth that price.
The reason it's so much is that whomever is selling it to you works on a commission which means they are getting a BIG chunk of what you would pay for it.
If it's a "friend" that's trying to stick you with it - they aren't your friend.

My mom bought one, oh, four or five years ago and it is still going strong. We only used a few attachments (getting into crack, under the couch, cushions, etc) every once in a while. I like it.
Personally, I don't think any vaccum cleaner should we 1,500$, but that's just me.

Kirby's have been a respectable and good quality product for 60 years or more. If not abused, they will work for many many years. That should tell you something.
