I have read so many pro's and con's on this. I believe all of the nutritional info and dietary info, and all of the developement info, (ie- babies satisfaction vs allergic issues vs health hazzards vs immature gastrointestinal issues vs pediatric advice) So I'm thinking its all about personal preference too, and weighing the odds. So being on a liquid diet>> formula for a 2 month old, and having tremendous " MUSHY POOP FROM HELL" I'm not saying diarrhea, its healthy formula poop...lol!. But the basic qustion I have how soon will this goo "firm-up"????????? It makes me consider adding a solid (dish of- actually teaspoon of- runny rice cereal) to her diet.

Mushy poo is normal and usually changes in the next couple of months from her age now - around 4-6 months old. (If you think it's gross now, wait until teething - that stuff could knock you over from across the room!)

Don't add solids now - it won't change anything in her stool consistency-wise.

If your problem is with the poos then I wouldn't be in a rush to move her onto solids. Milk poos are, at least, predictable. As you move your baby onto solid foods, the poo will get more solid, but also less predictable as her body adjusts. It can get messy.

And you really shouldn't start your baby on any solids before 4 months as her digestion won't be ready for it. It's best to wait until your baby can hold her head up properly and is showing an interest in other people eating. Then give the runny rice cereal and move on from there...

Let me say this....mushy good solid constipation bad. My daughter was always blocked up ans had to start prune juice at 1month old and still has constipation issues at age 5. She also had bad reflux so the dr. told me to put 1-2 table spoons of rice in her bottle to give it a bit of weight but not too much her belly wouldnt be able to handle it. Usually about 4 months you can start cereal.

Sorry you think the poop is gross, but it's your baby, and that's life.
You should not start any rice cereal until 4 moths of age and they are now changing that to 6 months of age. Your childs digestion should be more important than poop from hell.
Besides, if you can't handle it now, have fun when it's the real stuff.

First of all, stop obsessing over your baby's poop. My daughter is 11 months old and she still has those "mushy poops" as you call it. Second, talk to your doctor about introducint solids. My doctor told us to wait until my daughter was 6 months old.
