I am Irish and I live in Italy.

With respect, I think you miss the point. The US is NOT afraid of Italy. Not at all. After all we have a lot of evidence to support the belief that the US cares not a jot for what other countries think. But, Italy is VERY scared of the US, as are many other countries. That is why Italy wants these CIA agents brought to trial, to show the world what illegalities have been done by the US government these past few years. Plus, as you may or may not know, there has been a very deep rooted protest here in Italy against the expansion of a large US military base in Vicenza (north east Italy) because citizens are afraid that it will be used as s supply base from which to attack Iran. Can you imagine the consequences the locals would suffer for a conflict they want no part of?

So, Italy IS important here. It is the only country trying to do something against this warmongering government in the USA. Do not be so quick to condemn that.

Being afraid of Italy is like being afraid of tomato sauce on a pizza.

I do not understand your point? I read the article you referenced and do not see where the U.S. is afraid.

The CIA has been operating in Italy, and the rest of Europe, to seek out and find terrorist. Terrorist have been using Europe to train, bank role, recruit, arm and equip terrorist. Most European governments are ok with this as long as the terrorist are targeting Americans and not Europeans.

It's not a question of fear. It's a question of how we handle a sensitive situation involving one of our closest allies. If we start saying FU to countries that like us then how are we supposed to get improve relations with countries that don't?
