Vampires (sometimes vampyres) are mythological or folkloric creatures believed to be the re-animated corpses of human beings who subsist on human or animal blood. In folklore, the term usually refers to the blood-drinking humans of Eastern European legends, but it is often extended to cover similar legendary creatures from other regions and cultures. The characteristics of vampires vary widely between these different traditions. Some cultures also have stories of non-human vampires, including real animals such as bats, dogs, spiders, and mythical creatures such as the chupacabra.
Vampires are a frequent subject of fictional books and films, although fictional vampires are often attributed traits distinct from those of folkloric vampires.
The term vampire is also used to more generally refer to mythical or fictional creatures that drain power, energy, or life from unwilling victims. Creatures who act in this manner are often considered part of the vampire archetype, even if they do not consume blood.
Vampirism is the practice of drinking blood from a person or animal. In folklore and popular culture, the term refers to a belief that one can gain supernatural powers by drinking human blood. The historical practice of vampirism can generally be considered a more specific and less commonly occurring form of cannibalism. The consumption of another's blood (or flesh) has been used as a tactic of psychological warfare intended to terrorize the enemy, and can be used to reflect various spiritual beliefs.
In zoology and botany, the term vampirism is used in reference to leeches, mosquitos, mistletoe, vampire bats, and other organisms that subsist on the bodily fluids of others.

Shedding the blood of another being and drinking blood are crutches for the uninitiated. Use your own power!
The real vampires exist on the psychic level. Beings who have practiced "dark magic". And now fear to go to the Light. Scared they will be punsihed by an All-Loving Creator! NONSENSE.
That's why fools end up in negative realities.
They drain the vitality out of humans in order to maintian thier existence near this world. Lest they fall prey to the Forces of Creation, and are drawn into the Abyss!

Vampires are, opposite to popular belief, more of a spiritual being rather than a blood sucking creature of the night. A vampire can be categorized as any spirit or being which attacks another for the personal gain of ones energy.

depends on what books you read.some have them down as evil, some as good. Some have them having to suck all your blood out of you and then them giving you some to turn you some having them just sucking some of your blood and giving you some to turn you. Some have vampires sleeping in coffins with dirt from their homeland, some dont, just somewhere dark. Some have vampires being able to turn into a bat or other animals, some don't.Generally its just a mass of contradictions.I could go on all day.Laurell K Hamilton for instance has different vampires having different powers eg turning into rotting corpses, flying etc.One thing I think they all agree on is that they can't stand sunlight, garlic or holy items and also that you either chop off their head or take out their heart.I don't think I'll go on anymore.Hope this is of use.

The word 'Vampire' is of Slavic origin from the word 'Wampir'.Strictly speaking vampires are the dead who steal an unnatural extension of their earthly existence by rising from the grave and drinking the blood of others. They are members of the Preternatural race.
Throughout Christendom it was once held that vampires were the bodies of murderers & suicide victims rising again.
In Western Christianity it was mainly ghosts of the dead we feared, but in the East it was believed the dead took on a physical form-that what we think of today as Vampires.

That a vampire can also be described as someone who picks on you so much that they drain all the confidence out of you. Or a drug dealer who sucks every penny of finance from your wallet. That's a real vampire not some 16 year old trend goth who has changed his name to lestat and listens to Korn and Wednesday 13.

Well they are fictitious, yet there are reports in history of people that share ideals of these characters. Vlad the impaler was one example. He was a count in a european country, not Transalvania like vampires are known to be from. He was notorious for inviting people to dinner and slaying them afterwards by impaling them on sharp pikes. Reports of cannibalism in different countries have led to the belief of vampires in which the idea of blood sucking came from. They are seen in different ways in different countries. Some believe that they are allergic to garlic, wooden stakes in the heart can kill them, they do not like christian crosses, and are allergic to sunlight. These are ideas that show that purity is the best way to kill them. They are seen as evil or demonic beings.

Vampires do exist, but not in human form. Vampire bats feed off blood so they are real enough. Human Vampires do not exist unless in peoples dreams or on TV/Movies. People who think they are Vampires and try to drink blood will simply make themselves sick, but after saying that, there are some weirdo's out there...

Vampires my dear, are peole with lost souls, said to be blood thirsty. May be there in your neighborhood or maybe gone. They have sharp canine teeth and mostly stay away from sunlight. Some movies say they can stand the sunlight but they are not always right.
