how many of you actually think that spicy foods induce labor? I am not trying to induce. I was just wondering, has it actually worked for anybody?

I was sick of being pregnant, so we ate spicy food for dinner, went out for a walk, and had sex. My water broke 10 hours later.

I don't believe that it works. My mother ate spicy food CONSTANTLY while pregnant with me (one of the only things that she could keep down), and she never induced using spicy food. I'm pretty sure it, like many other induction techniques, are just an old wives tale.

I have never heard of this but it sounds like a myth to me. Spicy food is more likely to induce heartburn! There is a pressure point on the foot that is supposedly linked to labor induction, you would have to find a massage therapist that does reflexology and see if they know 'induction massage'. I don't know how safe this is and wouldn't recommend it.

I have had four pregnancies and spicy food never worked for me. Matter of fact, with my last pregnancy I was addicted to spicy buffalo wings and ate them everyday. I would drool just thinking about them!! LOL!!! The spicier the better! My daughter was 2 weeks late, even after eating all those spicy hot wings!!!

According to my doctor, it's just another old wives tale. Just like (I have actually tried these ones) taking a ride down a bumpy road and scrubbing your kitchen floor on your hands and knees. I walked for hours and tried every stupid thing anyone told me to do. Didn't work. The doctor did tell me that having sex and nipple stimulation can help start labor. Personally that sound like more fun than heart burn. LOL! Good luck with your baby!

Highly spiced food has the effect of putting you in a daring or defiant mood and can help build up the courage to face the labour situation if you are otherwise tensed up.Traditional midwives have used this knowledge to deal with the timid ones.

Not me. I ate jalapeno peppers and red hot sauce, and anything else I could get my hands on that was spicy, because I craved it. I ate that way my entire pregnancy. It never put me into labor.

It's more liable to induce heartburn than labor. I think it's an old wives' tale.
