Perhaps my answer may not be what you were looking for, but does it really matter what greets and loves you when you get home? Having lost my two cats to cancer in less than 3 years, right now I'd love almost any kind of fur baby to love and cuddle with everyday.
Dogs or cats?? Can't go wrong with either since they will both love you unconditionally and will do so until the very end.

Cats definitely, but I like both. Why not dogs as first pick? Because they require a lot more attention (like a child) than I am able to give. I try to be responsible with pets, so cats are best for me. I wish the dog owners that leave their dogs tied up outside or in a pen would stop keeping them.

I like both. I have a cat, because they are low maintenance. But, I love dogs too. They have so much spirit and enthusiasm, that they're impossible to not love.

Dogs rule, cats suck! Cats are sneaky your never know when they are going to turn on your. Dogs are fun, cute, and have much more personality.

I had a cat that clawed my new living room furniture and peed on the carpet so much that we had to replace the carpet. I will never have another cat again!
