read your lease.... because mine said as long as it wasnt structural ie it doest surpport the building....then you dont have to ask....but other things are in the lease like if you change the colour of the walls you might even have to ask for persission from the freeholder....

YOu do not own the building. Hence you have no power to change the layout of the flat. Check with the freeholder (?) or in the US, Landlord.

If it is a long lease probably not, but more importantly if it is load bearing, you will need building regulations approval from the local council.
