I try to be good, not because it matters ultimately but because it matters NOW. I like to feel content that I have done a good days work when I return home from my workplace. I feel great immediately after I win over a temptation. I feel releived as soon as I confess giving in to some temptation or wronging some one knowingly or unknowingly. Even when I worship I feel the freshness of being cleansed right away.

In truth if there were no afterlife and no "reward" after death for choosing to be a good human being it would still be a waste to live any other way. To understand this you must understand what little value things like money and PlayStation's really hold. Most people will find this out after they have had a death in the family. Would you trade your mothers love for a check in the mail? The best things in life are truly free and they do not come to you when you are living only for your self.

My definition of good is: That which ultimately matters.
So what you're asking is an oxymoron to me, and yes I would continue to try to be good.

It probably does not matter, though it does feel nice to be good later on, and that in the end 'being good' will be a benefit.

Define "being good". Not eating cookies? Not having a one night stand? Studying for the math test?
"Being good" means different things to different people.

I would be tempted to settle some old scores but the reality is that being a decent person comes naturally for the majority of us.

Does not matter to whom? I'd think it would matter to yourself.
