A sixth grade art project consist of a child creating and marketing a product.
The child creates a suicide kit in which comes with an instruction book of numerous ways to kill yourself as well as objects. For safety purposes the child puts in a fake gun, fake pills, fake knife and some rope.
What would you think of this child?
After talking to the child you discover that it seems the child has no thoughts of suicide and just meerly thought a kit would be a good idea for those truely wanting to kill themself.
Would you be alarmed, would you refer for counseling?

Sounds like some adult is helping the child. Where would they get those fakes pills and guns? It doesn't sound like a kid's mind to me.

Children - and people in general - express themselves in all sorts of ways. This project is definitely a medium and opportunity for self-expression. And something is being expressed here. It may be that the child doesn't have suicide feelings, but the prudent path is to get the child to talk about it. If it were my kid, we'd go to a counselor with the kit. A real child psychologist, not a school counselor. YOU NEVER KNOW.

Absolutely! I would inform the parents so they are aware of these thoughts their child is having and refer him to counseling. He may say he's never thought of suicide but it sounds like he has researched it so I would definitely be alarmed and let his family know so that they can watch his actions more closely. That is not normal or healthy.
