It depends on the style of playing that you do. You might just need an acoustic guitar pick up. Gibson Les Paul is very nice but very expensive. You could also check eBay and or second hand stores for good bargains. Check out Yamaha electrics as well. Make sure you get a good amp. to go with the guitar.

Gibson Les Paul (is there another kind of electric guitar?) If you can't afford a Gibosn Les Paul, an Epi LP will do in a pinch. As soon as you by the Epiphone, change out the pick-ups and the tuners and you'll have a pretty decent axe.

hey,
all the guitars mentioned above are made by certified brands.
An ibanez is usually an economical option. ISJ40 is quite good. Depends what level you're playing at. Also, what kind of music you play. I play a yamaha f210 acoustic myself, and though i have an electric guitar, i dont quite feel like playing it that often. A semi-acoustic would also be a wise option in my opinion, if you're into jazz.
Otherwise, get a medium range ibanez guitar, and a kickass processor, because though all these elecs are almost the same, it's the processor that can very often make the difference.
ToneWorks have good processors. Get a good pedal.
And congrats in advance for your guitar ;)
Cheers
Mihir

If you played a year and a half you will really not need something expensive. A squire might be good to start off with as they are a cheap Fender basically. if you want to spend a little more a fender is good because stratocaster and telecaster modles are very simple inside and so are open to anything. Most fenders dont have humbuckers and have single coil pickups making very smooth sounds. If you want rock get an Epiphone because they are the same as gibson basically but a gibson is about 5 times the price. I play an IBanez and have big hands and find it a little difficult but it is really awesome for anything. Guitarists like Joe Satriani and Steve vai play Ibanez but alot of famous guitarists use Fender. Eddy Van Halen, Eric Johnson Hope I helped

Well it all really depend on your stlye. if your heavy, get something like an SG or Xplorer, if your classic definetly get the Les Paul (for cheaper than Gibson get Epiphone or Ibanez) or the Fender Stratocaster.

i would personally go for a schecter... or an esp. If you are looking for something like a les paul, ESP makes a good rendition of it... check it out at espguitars.com. I like the Schecter c-1 Classic... although it is on the pricy side. Also the schecter Omen is cool. i guess it just depends on what you like... and how much you are willing to spend :) ok well i hope i helped you out. i would pick the ibanez over the paul any day :D
