What should I say during a follow-up call?

It's for an entry-level retail sales job, and I have not been interviewed yet.

First ask if the position has been filled or if they are still interviewing. There is little point in chasing a job that is no longer available. Express an understanding that they are probably busy but could they give you a timescale for replies and interviews to be arranged. And drop your name into the middle of the conversation as well as at introduction and farewell to stimulate their memory for later
