I am Indonesian, I live in the UK and I have a British passport.

Well, I've heard that getting a Japanese passport is ''something that can only happen in your dreams'', but I'm certain that it's not true, of course.

Do note that I have been studying the Japanese language for six years and that I'm a neurosurgery student and that I would like to continue my study in Japan. I already have a sponsor.

I forgot that I don't only want to study there, but that I also want to live there forever.

If you want a Japanese passport, you must become a Japanese citizen. So I assume that your are asking about gaining Japanese citizenship, right?

Well, I won't say that it is impossible, but it is very difficult. The biggest obstacle would be the physical presence test. You have to be living in Japan for a very long time. It took me over 12 years to get permanent resident status. And that was even after I married a Japanese national. For the exact requirements, you should go to the Japanese embassy in the UK. They will have a definitive list of requirements.

Now, you could significantly speed up that process if you do something very significant in your field. Exceptions have been made for pro sports figures in soccer, and sumo. If you develop some ground-breaking technique in brain wave mapping, or something like that, and then express a desire to become a Japanese citizen, I am sure the strings could be pulled just so they could say that the technique came from Japan.

Good luck.

You get the passport from your home country. Check with Indonesian Government, or if you mean VISA go to your local Japanese embassy or Consulate.
