You're right. I think the problem is special effects, ... in the past a good horror or science fiction movie had to have a good plot that kept you interested. Now directors think all they have to do is use the same old story and fill the scenes with ever more exotic and unrealistic special effects. It's special effects for the sake of special effects with no legitimate, or interesting story line.

Horror movies "jumped the shark" as a genre a long time ago. Somewhere along the line gross took over and actual fear was no longer involved in watching the film - excluding fear of seeing something gross! Damn special effects people!

I have to agree with you.
Sometimes those old cheesy B-rated horror movies are better than the ones on the shelves today. I still like the old Vincent Price scary movies.

I agree totally. It seems to make a good film in that genre now ten quarts of blood have to be show lost at every turn. It just blood, gore and stupidity now a days. Still like the old "B" movies myself. At least you could laugh at them.

A TRUE horror movie would be the six o'clock news covering stories about G.W. Bush's next plan of assault. Sequels come out 3 times a week.

I was thinking the horror movies were getting to be too much...they are so graphic now and gory - it is unreal. I can't even watch the previews - I refuse. I wish horror movies did not exist.

no movies in general are "dumbing down" - they'll give anyone a camera, take AL Gore for example...and they'll put anyone in front of a camera as well - see Paris Hilton, being an actor or director - (in the purest sense) has been so diluted its almost meaningless now..

The whole "let's trap people and watch them die slow deaths by torture" thing is stupid as hell. No brain needed to write a story like that, just a few gallons of fake blood and skin.
