Several factors go into the decision:
1) Quality of the machine
2) Quality of the software
3) PRICE OF THE CONSUMABLES!

All considered, I like the Brother line of MFC ink-jet all-in-one printers...

Inks are inexpensive, good quality output, overall great value!

They have units that have built-in networking (wired and wireless) as well as fax and answering machine capabilities...

Units start as low as $70 at stores like Staples...

i would try lexmark
i have a X4270 and it does everything you listed: print, copy, scan, fax. think it cost me $70 at wal-mart about three months ago.
they also have great customer support: my black cartridge was acting funny so i contacted them and they sent me a new one for free, can't complain.

You need to determine how you are going to use it, ie pictures, or just typing. Then determine how much you want to spend.

I love my brother, the only fall back is it does not do the best pictures. For pictures I would say HP is the best.

Good luck
