Be careful that any website you find is looking for the same criteria as you are - what may be rated excellent for an upper-class couple with four children, won't be the right place for a student.

Generally Richmond, Kingston, Chelsea and Knightsbridge are thought of a 'nice' places to live, but come at a financial premium. I am told Wandsworth has the lowest Council Tax, but perhaps that means the services that council provide are not as good as other in other boroughs?

Another good tip I was given was check out the local area, look for 'Waitrose' as a good indicator. I would also advise checking transport connections, where will you work and where will you need to get too. (I know London has a very good Public transport system, but some areas are not as well connected), are you religious or have a particular hobby, have/planning to have children? Choose an an area near to places of interest or good schools. Also remember that some areas are being redeveloped for the Olympics, adding infrastructure etc to those areas...
