How long does it take for a background check to go through? A job I applied for said I would have to get one before I could be hired. My interview was last Tuesday, and on Wednesday morning they had already called my current boss for a reference.
How long would it take to get the background check done?

We do background checks for all of our employees here. We are in Pennsylvania and it normally take about no more than a day, but it all depends. If you have a common name (John Smith), it will take longer because of your name being common. If you were in the military at all, that also seems to have the process take longer. We also do out of state checks, those seem to take anywhere between 3-5 days.

I would call them and find out. We have employees all the time. There might be a chance that the crim check system is down (we have that problem quite often).

Good luck!!!

The benefit of background checks that most clients see is an increase in applicant quality. We often hear from our new customers that they saw an almost immediate improvement in the quality of applicants once the word got out that they were conducting thorough background checks. A complete employee screening process:
Results in fewer applications with serious discrepancies
Discourages applicants who are trying to hide something
Increases applications from applicants who want to work in a safe environment
Increases the quality of new hires due to an improved applicant pool and improved selection process

It usaully takes about tow to three days after they send it in. That is if they are hiring you if not they will use that as a excuse not to hire you without coming and saying I will not hire you. I have had this personally happen to me.

That depends on their method of checking your background and if they can get in contact with those whom you listed as references.

It would depend on how many persons they intend to call and how soon those persons respond, but on the average i would say not more than two weeks.
