Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier, a Gothic thriller

I also like:
Nevada Barr -- murders in National Parks
Janet Evanovitch -- funny
James Patterson -- the king of thrillers- all fast paced and exciting, some are a bit gruesome, though.
Laurie King's Mary Russell books (Sherlock Holmes is in these, too)
Karen Kijewski - I used to live in Sacramento, and her detective lives there.
Fiona Buckley's Ursula Blanchard mysteries - a lady in waiting at Queen Elizabeth I's court solves mysteries. Mystery, historical fiction and romance -- who could ask for more!

Grisham's books are good. Easy to read and entertaining -- like good TV. Not great literature, but fun.

Check out the J. D. Robb series, "Death In......". There are something like 20 books in the series now, each will stand on their own, but are great also together.
