my friends son got ahold of some xanax, he is 18. he went crazy, started wanting to fight his mother and uncle. he smashed holes in the walls, and broke a bedroom door. I thought xanax was supposed to calm you down? why did he react this way?

It is meant to calm you down but not all meds work the same in all people!

He should probably be sure he doesn't take it again.

Different people react different ways to drugs. That's why it's so dangerous to take someone elses medication. Xanax is a anti anxiety medication and should help you relax, However, he may have taken more than 1 and it could have had an adverse affect on him.

Sounds like a paradoxical reaction to the drug. That means it produced the Opposite effect in him than the effect the drug was designed to produce. That's why it's not safe to take someone else's medications. You should always keep any medication you might have safe and away from friends and family too. Do not share prescription drugs.

Xanax is meant to calm you down, I wonder if he took it with something else and had an interaction.
