Well, it sounds like you've made some great progress on your own by stopping the cutting. You should be proud of yourself for that. I am trying hard to think of what could be so depressing to you at 14. You should be having the time of your life and not spending your days alone and depressed. Let me just say this.....you have a whole life ahead of you and things will change so much between now and when you graduate and get out on your own. The world is a hard place and life is not easy but it is definitely worth living! Try to focus on the good things in your life. Don't follow the crowd, especially the emo, depressed crowd. You need to be around positive people. People who inspire you and want to make you better yourself. This is your life. Live it to the fullest. I know it's hard to see past right now, but the things that bother you now won't even phase you in a few years, believe me. If you concentrate on your studies now and get through school, you will have a life of your own, on your own to look forward to. There will always be things that will get you down or be hard to deal with....that's life. But all in all the good always outweighs the bad. You have so much of life to look forward to. Don't give up! Challenge yourself to get through this and set goals for your future. That will give you something to look forward to and to work towards. Good luck to you.

Actually you really sound quite smart. You know you are in trouble and want to to something about it. Surely you can talk to someone, an adult preferably?
We all go through periods of illness and emotional lows. Think of this as a tunnel you have to go thro to get to light. 14 is usually a horrible time for most people. 15 will be better and 16 better still, by the time you are 18 most issues would have resolved themselves and you will be happier with yourself.
And yes, do try and get some physical activity for just 30 minutes a day. The endorphins generated will counter that depression

Dear Precious Destiny-
I am SO sorry you are having such a rough time right now!!! Don't jump. Life WILL get better. Being a teenager is the pits- for MANY people. Is there a counselor at your school with whom you could make an appointment? Counselors can really help a lot. Is your home situation a problem for you?
Some places have "Help" phone lines (meaning you can call to talk with someone). Perhaps you may even need a medicine to help you be less depressed.
Don't give up!!!! `
There is help out there for you- we just need to find out what options are available for you. (I will try to find an 800 number for you to call...)

Sometimes I don't know if the things I read on Y/A are real, and so I choose to joke about most of what I respond to.I am not sure this is the case with you,but in the event that what you say is true I can tell you that at that age I was overwhelmed with insecurities and doubts about myself.I had little to no friends(I am a mature adult and still have little and no friends).i have learned to just ignore the negative things in people that make me feel uneasy, and I exercises regularly for my mental and physical health.I hate to use cliches but it will get better. You will always face problems and insecurities, but over time you will become stronger and learn to face difficulties that arise. Please don't hurt yourself....I beg you.You can e-mail me if you need someone to talk to.

I've read and heard that all teenagers are going through a huge brain development phase in life. The problem is it temporarily reduces their ability to manage emotions. So it's not you, not your fault. Also, it will correct itself as you grow out of teen years. Some kids do better with this than others. You'll make it through, but now that you know what's happening, don't feel so out of control. You've taken the first step, knowing that you're emotional and wanting to do something. I suggest throwing yourself into your studies. Also, learn logic games like chess and sudoku. I'm serious. I had this problem and you can do these things.

I'd say you need to find someone to talk to. Either an adult whose opinions you respect or someone in a professional field. Doctor, Lawyer, Priest. I'd recommend a counselor or a therapist, but only if you would feel SAFE telling them the things you need to tell them.

Your low self esteem is the basis for your feeling that you don't deserve all the good that life has to offer. And believe me when I say that there is NO ONE that does NOT deserve all the good that life has to offer.
